What is the Political Courage Test?

Florida Congressional Election 2014 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No one likes abortions. There is a great need for adoptions, and I have three adoptive children myself and my adoptive daughter had one of her children adopted instead of aborted. But unwanted pregnancy is the problem, best solved through education and an enlightened view of sexuality favoring restraint. But in the final analysis the woman not politicians or the public must make the decision of bearing a child. The political use of this "prolife" issue has resulted in giving reign to foreign policy resulting in the death of millions of innocent children, women and men as civilian war casualties.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
The Department of Defense illegally refuses to be audited as required by law since 1992. The spend most of the non-discretionary national budget. They wasted $3-4 Trillion in the latest unending wars. They are ruining our country and they killed over 250,000 Iraqis who had nothing to do with 9/11. In 1961 top marginal tax rate was 91% for those making over $2 million. Now taxes on the rich are at all time lows paying an average of 23% which our country's infrastructure crumbles and our social safety net and education are seriously underfunded.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering taxes as a way of promoting growth in the economy?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
In the case of small and mid-sized business which we want to encourage while taxing huge monopolistic corporations which we want to discourage.
Yes Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
But it should be done with great caution favoring block grants that allow states to meet their needs as they think will work best unless they clearly misuse funds in a discriminatory fashion.
No Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
A top priority of the federal government must be to address our fossil fuel addiction and the transition to green energy. That would provide far more jobs and possibly save the planet from a disastrous predicted 4 degree temperature rise.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
But they must be reasonable. I also believe in the Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment, crafted when our founders had just overthrown an oppressive government. Historically, far more harm and violence has done to citizens by their own governments than has been done by citizens against each other. Tyranny is discouraged in a country where its citizens can defend themselves. That is what concerns most 2nd Amendment advocates such as myself.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
I would prefer single payer, Medicare of All, starting with veterans.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
The Senate version of CIR must be passed without delay. We must have laws that respect all people and don't allow undocumented workers to be exploited by corporations. We must reunite families and allow those already here a quick path to citizenship. They, like all the immigrants before them, help build our country and are a blessing. In the eyes of Native Americans, we are all undocumented.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
See my website under Issues page for full explanation of my views.
No Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
Being one of millions who have lost their pensions through private hands, and having lost my pension because of the irresponsibility of my employer of 25 years, I am deeply suspicious of trusting private entities with any part of our Social Security system.

We must address our debt problem, both national and personal. We are not getting anything from our huge defense/security budget. Money should be taken from there and applied both to our debt, and to job creation, and social safety net, infrastructure and transition to green power.
The first priority must be election reform including term limits. I doubt Congress will limit itself in this way so this will take leadership and citizen action such as Move to Amend. We must curtail military spending and take Eisenhower's warning against the military/industrial complex, as the great threat to our country, seriously. We must consider massive public works projects since globalization is taking jobs to low pay countries. These jobs should be paid for by taxes on the exiting companies.
